Agusan town vice mayor dies in road accident

MANILA, Philippines - A town vice mayor in Agusan del Sur died after his vehicle lost control and fell in a deep canal before dawn Wednesday, police said.

Police said the Ford Everest (SGF-554) driven by Trento town Vice Mayor Ron Agocpra, 51, went out of control while speeding along the national highway in Purok 4, Barangay 4 in Prosperidad town at around 1:30 a.m.

Reports said Agocpra's vehicle was approaching a curved portion of the highway when it went out of control and cross the opposite lane and fell into the canal.

The vehicle also rammed into a concrete flower box in the area, police said.

The vice mayor died while being treated at the Plaza Memorial Hospital.
