Suspect in Pampanga campus beauty queen slay charged
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Police filed criminal charges on Friday against a man suspected of killing a student of the Holy Angel University (HAU) in Angeles City on March 2.
Rolando Estrada, a resident of Barangay Lourdes Sur, was charged with frustrated robbery with homicide, according to Senior Superintendent Jose Hidalgo, Angeles City police officer-in-charge.
Hidalgo said Estrada was arrested before 3 p.m. on Friday in Barangay Sto. Cristo.
Estrada allegedly entered the room of Danielle Louise Conde, 17, an engineering student, at a dormitory in Barangay Sto. Cristo and fatally stabbed her.
The suspect surrendered yesterday morning, saying he fears for his safety, but denied any involvement in the crime.
Nilo Malonzo, a councilman in Barangay Lourdes Sur, said Estrada first contacted barangay officials to say he wanted to surrender.
“His relatives also contacted the police to negotiate for his surrender because they feared for his safety,†he said.
Police have yet to contact witnesses to confirm whether Estrada was the same man they saw fleeing from the crime scene.
At least three witnesses, aged 12 to 13, told police the suspect, who was sporting a short cropped hair, fled the scene on a mountain bike.
