MANILA, Philippines - A party-list group has urged the government to order a probe to unmask the people behind rice smuggling after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) recently confiscated P9 million worth of smuggled rice from Vietnam.
BOC personnel under Deputy Commissioner Danilo Lim recently opened 35 20-footer shipping containers in Phividec, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and discovered the smuggled rice.
Abono party-list questioned how the smuggled rice managed to enter the country even if the shipment bore no name of the consignee.
The BOC has yet to file charges against those involved in the rice smuggling at the Department of Justice.
Abono cited the need for a thorough probe to unmask the consignee and owner of the rice shipment
