Cainta mayor’s aide shot
MANILA, Philippines - The executive assistant of Cainta Mayor Ramon Ilagan was critically wounded when one of three motorcycle-riding men shot him during a meeting Thursday night.
The victim, Jaime de Leon, 62, sustained a gunshot wound in the nape and was rushed to the Manila East Medical Center.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, has ordered a thorough investigation on the shooting, while the mayor’s office has refused to comment on the case.
De Leon was attending a meeting at the Sub-Urban Bowling Recreation at Marick Drive Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Domingo at around 9:50 p.m. Thursday when one of three men aboard a motorcycle approached him, pulled out a handgun and shot him, Anduyan said.
De Leon is the political operator of Ilagan’s wife, Veron, who is seeking to replace him as mayor in the May polls.
