Pampanga lawmaker receives death threats

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – A former security guard of a Pampanga congressman said he found an envelope containing five bullets for an M-16 rifle at the gate of the lawmaker’s house last Saturday.

Rep. Aurelio Gonzales said the envelope also contains a piece of paper with his nickname “Dong” written on it.

“This is political harassment…Somebody is threatening me,” the congressman of the third district of Pampanga said, adding that it was the first time that he received bullets.

Gonzales said unidentified men also splashed black paint on his tarpaulins.

He said he asked the Pampanga police and the Commission on Elections to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and arrest the perpetrators.

Gonzales said he also fears for the life of his former bodyguard, SPO1 Angel Pesayco, who transferred his family to an undisclosed place following the incident.

Gonzales, a candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, will run against San Fernando City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, of the Liberal Party.
