MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III called on Filipinos to continue to live and internalize the spirit of the EDSA People Power which ousted former strongman Ferdinand Marcos Sr. 27 years ago.

During his speech at the 27th year anniversary at People Power Monument in Quezon City, Aquino also urged the Filipino people to improve their lives further instead of being contented with the status quo.

At the same time, the president criticized the administration of  his predecessor  and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

He boasted of his administration's economic gains, a contrast from the weak growth during the previous administrations.

Among those who attended the celebration were heroes of Edsa People Power, Senate president Juan Ponce, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., ranking government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
