The recovery of six more buried bodies of mine workers in Semirara island has been temporarily suspended due to bad weather in the area, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.
PNP Western Visayas regional director, Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. , said the retrieval operations for the cadaver of the buried workers and equipment at the Panian pit in Caluya, Semirara has been hampered by two more landslides.
"Retrieval operation for the meantime is temporarily suspended due to rainy weather," Cruz said.
Last week, a landslide occured due to heavy downpour in the Panian pit of the Semirara coal mine, burying several coal mine workers.
Three workers were pulled out of the pit while at least 10 were buried alive in the rubble.
Meanwhile, a TV report said the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance to the landslide victims and their families.
The DSWD gave P5,000 each to the rescued workers and P10,000 each for the families of dead workers.
The report added that the agency has yet to give assistance to the families of missing workers. All the rescued workers and their families, and the other families of missing and dead workers have undergone critical incident stress debriefing, the DSWD said.
