Lucy donates books to 3 Ormoc City schools

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, represented by her chief of staff, Richard Gomez, recently turned over 1,956 reference books to three national high schools here.

The book donation is a joint project of the congresswoman’s office, the Kabataan Iwas sa Droga sa Tulong ng Sports (KIDS) Foundation, and the Children’s Foundation. 

Accompanied by his brothers-in-law Matt Torres and Vince Rama, Gomez had his first stop in Barangay Ipil where he was welcomed by the students and teachers led by principal Juliet Montebon.

Gomez said this was the second time they were giving books to the school, education being one of the priorities of his wife.

The first batch of books, he said, came from their friends abroad. This time, the reference books on math, English, algebra and trigonometry came from the Children International Foundation.

Gomez urged the students to take the opportunity to read the books and use them for their research to fully understand their lessons.

The high school in Ipil received 755 books, and those in Linao and Dolores got 575 and 626, respectively.

Gomez, who is running for Ormoc mayor in the May polls, also took the opportunity to announce that the rubberized oval at the Ormoc City central school, one of 25 in the country, will be finished by March and will help in training track and field athletes.

He added that his wife also wants to develop a baseball field at the EVSU campus in Patag, donated to the school by the family of his running mate, Leo Carmelo “Toto Jr.” Locsin.
