Waist-high floods submerge 2 Zamboanga villages
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Flash flood triggered by incessant rain inundated two villages in Zamboanga del Norte since Thursday and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate, a military official said.
Col. Amadeo Azul, commanding officer of the 101st Army Brigade, said his forces rescued 950 villagers in the barangays of Guinles and Conacon, both in Polanco town.
He said the flash flood swept the two villages as Polanco experienced heavy rains since Wednesday.
Azul said soldiers were immediately deployed to rescue the residents as waters have risen to waist-high levels.
The military official reported no casualty from the disaster but some properties, mostly agricultural crops, were damaged by the flooding.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council have already advised the residents living in the landslide-prone areas to stay on alert and evacuate if necessary to avoid tragedy.
