P15-M fake anti-diabetes drugs destroyed in Laguna

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

SAN PEDRO, Laguna, Philippines – At least 14 boxes of fake anti-diabetes drugs worth P15 million were destroyed yesterday morning at the municipal hall here.

The boxes contained 840,000 pieces of counterfeit Diamecron tablets seized in a police operation in Barangay Langgam on March 12, 2012, Superintendent Chito Bersaluna, San Pedro police chief, said.

Bersaluna said a manhunt for the owner of the fake drugs, an Indian man, is ongoing. He told The STAR the suspect and his Filipino cohort hired a printing press to tamper with the label of the drugs.
