Rains cause flooding in Koronadal

Ramil Bajo - The Philippine Star

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – Heavy rains left a number of villages here flooded Saturday night, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate.

In a report, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) said most of the affected residents were those living near the banks of Bulok Creek, the city’s longest waterway.

Hundreds of houses, mostly “rooms for rent,” were reportedly built along the banks of the creek.

CDRRMC action officer Cyrus Urbano said the flooding affected the villages of Pantua and Maranon, and the streets of Arellano and Alba, all in Barangay Zone 111, and low-lying portions of Barangay Zone 1.

Urbano said the flooded folk returned to their houses after the rains stopped.

“They were homeless for more than six hours because of the non-stop heavy rains,” a barangay official told The STAR.
