John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines  - Two residents were injured when two men wearing black ski masks blasted Wednesday night a fragmentation grenade at the residential compound of a supervisor of public schools in Montawal town in Maguindanao.

Investigators are convinced the target of the bombing was Delia Daniel, supervisor of government schools in the politically-restive Montawal town.

Daniel survived the bombing unscathed, but her two house helpers were not as lucky.

Investigators of the Montawal police said the victims, whose named they declined to reveal pending the notification of their families, have been evacuated to a hospital in Kabacan, North Cotabato for medication.

Daniel has confirmed having received “death threats” prior to the bombing.

She told police probers she had also received threats on her life during the 2004, 2007 and 2010 election periods, apparently related to her being member then of the Montawal’s board of election tellers.

Witnesses said one of the two bombers casually approached the frontyard of the Daniel family at the town proper of Montawal and tossed a fragmentation grenade on the roof of their house.

The grenade rolled down, fell into the ground and went off.

The two injured house helpers were in a room near the spot where the grenade landed and exploded.

The Montawal municipal police are still trying to determine the identities of the two bombing suspects and their motive for the attack.

The suspects fled after the grenade attack, according to witnesses.
