ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Anti-narcotics agents wounded and captured a notorious drug pusher after attempting to elude a buy-bust operation in Dapitan City, police said Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent Nelson Eucogco, Zamboanga Peninsula police regional office, said the arrested suspect as Roel Acaylar was the No. 1 notorious drug pusher in Zamboanga del Norte.
The police official said elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a buy-bust operation Friday at Barangay Kauswagan in Dapitan City.
The suspect sensed the narcotics agents' operation and attempted to elude arrest. He was arrested as he was fleeing to an adjacent village.
Eucogco said that Acaylar ran to a house, where he holed up for several minutes. He said that as policemen were convincing the suspect to surrender, Acaylar fired at the PDEA agents.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained after he was treated in a hospital.
The PDEA agents recovered from the suspect heat-sealed plastic sachets containing marijuana and shabu.
The PDEA charged the suspect for violation of illegal possession of prohibited drugs and illegal possession of firearms.
