MANILA, Philippines - Four suspects are now in the custody of the Quezon City Police District following the killing of a town mayor in Isabela province on Tuesday night, a police official said Wednesday.
The arrest of the suspects came less than 12 hours since the killing of Maconacon town Mayor Erlinda Domingo in an ambush outside an apartelle in Barangay West Triangle.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Richard Albano said the suspects were nabbed in follow up operations conducted by the QCPD's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit and Special Weapons and Tactics team.
QCPD deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao said among those recovered were guns and ammunitions and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the killing.
Police said the mayor was ambushed outside the Park Villa Apartelle at the corner of Examiner Street and Quezon Avenue around 8:30 p.m.
The mayor's driver identified as Bernard Lazo was wounded in the ambush and was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.
The first suspect to be arrested was a certain Flores Pahinado, who was caught at a police checkpoint.
