No postman in Pangasinan town

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines – A post office with no postman?

The postal office in this town, which has yet to hire a replacement for its two postmen, who retired in October last year, could get the record.

Merlita Valerio, postmaster of the Binmaley Postal Office told The STAR yesterday that mails and packages are piling up and many Binmaleynians are not aware of the situation.

Valerio said only three chairmen of the town’s 33 barangays volunteered to get their constituents’ mails and deliver them to their houses.

Valerio said she hired an assistant, whose salary she pays from her own pocket, and asked her male household helper to  run errands for her at the office.

She said a municipal employee was detailed at the post office but only temporarily.
