ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - Nine people, including a policeman, were injured when an improvised bomb exploded Monday morning in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

Brig. Gen. Daniel Lucero, commander of 103rd Army Brigade, said the bomb exploded near the old Gaisano Department Store along Quezon Avenue, at around 10:35 a.m.

Lucero said the nine injured victims were rushed to the Iligan City Hospital for treatment.

He said that five of the victims have been discharged and the other four victims remained confined at the hospital due to the injuries they sustained from the blast.

The injured policeman was identified as a certain Police Officer 3 Jun Cabahug.

Initial investigations showed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device planted on a bicycle that was parked near the policeman's vehicle.

The bomb exploded as Cabahug was getting on his vehicle.
