2 killed, 16 hurt in Cebu jeep-truck collision

TOLEDO CITY, Cebu , Philippines – Just two days after a truck-bus collision left 10 people dead, another highway accident occurred in the province that killed two women, authorities said.

Last Friday night, police said a passenger jeepney rammed a 10-wheeler truck parked in Barangay Magdugo this city, killing a certain Rosemarie Bangkok, 44, and a still unidentified woman.

Sixteen other passengers sustained bruises and fractures and were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Jeepney driver Edelmar Alester, 29, was arrested, along with truck driver Junzen Labajo, 21, who failed to show his driver’s license and documents of his truck which was loaded with gravel and sand.

Last Wednesday, a trailer truck rammed a passenger bus in Naga City, killing 10 passengers and injuring 53 others.
