25 soldiers in Atimonan shootout restricted to barracks

MANILA, Philippines - The 25 soldiers involved in the checkpoint in Atimonan, Quezon have been restricted to their barracks after the alleged shootout which left 13 people dead, including suspected jueteng operator Vic Siman.

Southern Luzon Command Spokesman Generoso Bolina said all the 25 soldiers, including the team leader, Lt. Col. Monico Abang of the Army's 1st Special Forces Battalion, have been restricted to their barracks a day after the incident in Atinoman.

"Yes, restricted inside barracks lahat ng involved (in the shootout)," Bolina said.

He added that while inside the military camp, the soldiers will have to seek permission from their superiors before they are allowed to leave the facility.

"Bawal silang isama sa mga operations kapag restricted sila to barracks," he said.

"We want to make sure that they will be available for the ongoing investigation into the incident," Bolina noted.
