P1-M property lost in ‘Gapo fire

Olongapo City, Philippines – At least P1 million worth of property were destroyed in a fire that struck two commercial buildings in this city’s red light district Friday that left seven persons dead, including four foreigners. 

Chief fire investigator SFO3 Jose Borlagdatan yesterday identified one of the Filipinas who died in the blaze as Rebecca Orsal.

The fire, which started at Dryden Hotel and Ram Jungle club located in Barangay Baretto, occurred while most guests were asleep.

Arson probers are still investigating the cause of the fire that gutted the hotel. 

Killed in the blaze were Americans Patrick Burk, James Brigatti and Joseph Valoso; Hyung Ook Kim, a South Korean; and two other Filipinas, who remain unidentified.

Reports said the fire started at the third floor of the hotel owned by a 70-year-old American, David Fisher.

Firefighters also discovered that the hotel’s fire exit was closed when the fire broke out.
