DPWH to spend P380 M for Baguio road repairs
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct major road repairs in Baguio City this year.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the agency will spend P380 million for the road projects in preparation for the expected influx of local and foreign tourists who would watch the Panagbenga Flower Festival, Philippine Military Academy alumni homecoming and graduation, Holy Week break and the summer vacation.
Singson earlier sent a team of engineers to validate the condition of the roads and come up with their recommendations.
Among the recommended road works include re-blocking, preventive maintenance particularly asphalt overlay, surface treatment, and installation of pavement markings and pavement studs for the safety of commuters.
Singson earlier directed regional director Edilberto Carabbacan and Baguio City engineer Ireneo Gallato to prepare an implementation schedule to minimize the inconvenience to travelers.
Aside from the road repairs, the DPWH is also working on the Baguio City Circumferential Road to reduce traffic congestion and putting up needed structures in flood-prone areas.
