Bombs’ blasting rattles Ormoc folk

Lalaine Jimenea - The Philippine Star

ORMOC CITY, Philippines  â€“ Police blasted on Saturday some 100 vintage bombs they had stocked for several years, and the explosion sowed panic among locals as it was felt as far Merida town 28 kilometers away.

Senior Superintendent Elizar Egloso said the stockpiled bombs emitted smoke months ago, thus the decision to blast them as they posed danger to residents around Camp Downes here.

Egloso said they did not realize the impact of the explosion was wide, as tall buildings here shook and residents of Barangay Ipil, adjoining the site where the bombs were disposed of, rushed out into the streets out of fear.
