LAGUNA, Philippines – Rejected for a job, a construction worker hacked to death a retired US Navy man building a road to a pilgrimage site and his housemaid and seriously wounded another in Pakil, Laguna Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The body of former Navy soldier Cesar Dalena, 57, was found headless by policemen in a mountainous area called Ting-as in Barangay Burgos, Pakil town at 2 p.m. Saturday. His head was recovered 50 meters away from his body.
Dalena’s maid, Jackielyn Tapulalan, 19, a student, was found dead with hack wounds in the head about 30 to 40 meters away from her employer’s body.
A certain Nelson Agao managed to escape the killing and was rushed by bystanders to the Laguna provincial hospital.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, a certain Ronnie Abion, 22.
Investigation showed that Abion applied for a job in Dalena’s road project on Saturday but the latter rejected him, and a verbal tussle ensued.
Abion then reportedly brought out a knife and an ax and attacked Dalena. Tapulalan and Agao ran for their lives but Abion pursued them and hacked them, too.
