US nuclear sub to visit Subic
SUBIC BAY Freeport, Philippines - USS Bremerton (SSN 698), a nuclear powered attack submarine of the Los Angeles class design, will arrive in Subic Bay on Saturday, December 29, for a routine port call, highlighting the strong historic, community, and military connections between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines.
The visit's purpose, according to the US Embassy, is to replenish the vessel's supplies as well as give the vessel's crew an opportunity for rest and relaxation.
The USS Bremerton SSN 698 is named in honor of the city of Bremerton, Washington, home to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and a city long associated with the U.S. Navy.
During its 15 years of active service, BREMERTON saw action in the Korean Conflict and served as flagship for various cruiser divisions until decommissioned in 1960.
The sub carries with it 12 officers and 98 crew members. - Anthony Bayarong
