Village exec, 6-yr-old niece hurt in ambush

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines - A barangay kagawad and his six-year-old niece were hurt in an ambush in Solsona, Ilocos Norte on Wednesday.

Police identified the victims as George Vicente, a barangay kagawad in Bagbago, Solsona and his niece Switzel Mae Mila, 6.

Vicente suffered a gunshot wound in his chest and his niece was hit by a bullet in the arm.

Police said that the victims, along with the barangay official's wife, were on board a truck when they were ambushed by the gunmen.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the local official's ambush.
