Woman hacks husband to death

PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija, Philippines  – Police arrested on Sunday a woman for hacking to death with a sword her 67-year-old husband following a heated argument in front of their house in this town, police said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Walter Castillejos, provincial police director, said Augusto Espiritu, a resident of Barangay San Josef died from two hack wounds in the head.

Investigators said Augusto lunged at his wife, Corazon, 67, but lost his balance and fell on the pavement. Corazon was able to wrest control of the sword and hacked her husband.

Augusto was rushed to a nearby hospital but died while he was undergoing surgery.

Police Officer 3 Juanito Reyes Jr. said the couple had always been quarreling because the man had reportedly beat up his wife and children.
