Mining firms send ‘Pablo’ aid

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA), an association of mining companies, has mobilized a mission to bring relief goods to communities hit by typhoon “Pablo” in Compostela Valley and Davao del Sur.

Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI), a PMSEA member based in South Cotabato, has committed P500,000 as its contribution to the PMSEA fund while allotting another P500,000 for its own company-organized relief mission to areas devastated by Pablo.

The PMSEA relief fund has totalled P3 million as of this week. It will be used to purchase tents, food, drinking water, and medicine.

SMI, on the other hand, is partnering with local government units and civic groups in Mindanao to bring in not just relief goods but also a team of doctors to areas hardest hit by Pablo.

SMI said it postponed a company event scheduled in Davao del Sur this week so that its resources can be channelled to the relief efforts.
