CEBU CITY, Philippines – A couple tagged in a multimillion-peso scam in Quezon City recently surrendered to police authorities here.
Danilo and Janet Gujilde, both 47, were placed under arrest moments after they gave themselves up last Dec. 6.
The couple surrendered after receiving death threats from their supposed victims, Chief Inspector George Ylanan, head of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) of the Region 7 police, said yesterday.
Ylanan said the couple faces large-scale estafa charges in Quezon City and another estafa case in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.
Ylanan said the couple surrendered through the help of an operative of the Regional Intelligence Unit.
When the Gujildes arrived at the RSOG office, Ylanan said they then arrested them based on a warrant of arrest for other estafa charges.
Ylanan said they only presented the suspects yesterday since they conducted several follow-up operations related to the case.
According to Ylanan, based on the complaint filed in the Quezon City court, the couple duped their clients, mostly teachers, of P400 million.
The couple reportedly recruited people to invest in their school supply business with the promise that they could earn two percent every month.
The couple, in an interview, however, denied the amount, saying they were only able to receive P13 million from the victims. – Freeman News Service
