Kalinga gang leader slain

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – The suspected leader of the notorious Banyao armed group operating in Kalinga was killed while another gang member and a policeman were wounded in an alleged shootout in a remote village in Kalinga.

Senior Superintendent Froilan Perez, Kalinga police director, said Jeffrey Banyao shot at policemen who went to their hideout to serve a warrant of arrest for robbery and murder.

A policeman, PO1 Alfie Dess Alvaro, was hit in the right foot during the gunfight. – Raymund Catindig, Artemio Dumlao
