MANILA, Philippines - A British man was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his Taiwanese wife in Boracay in 2007.
In a 25-page decision received by the Department of Justice last week, the Kalibo Regional Trial Court Branch 6 found Carl Andrew Foster guilty of parricide for killing Fu Chia-Ning.
Foster was also ordered to pay the heirs of the victim P75,000 in civil indemnity, $24,312 in actual damages, P70,000 in moral damages and P40,000 in exemplary damages.
RTC Judge Jemena Abellar-Arbis dismissed the defense of temporary insanity raised by the accused during the trial.
Records show that Foster surrendered to the police after the murder but pleaded not guilty, claiming temporary insanity.
The victim’s family was provided legal assistance by Jose Bernas of Bernas Law Offices upon the request of the Taiwanese government.
