MANILA, Philippines - A moderately strong earthquake jolted Antique province yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Elmer Relota of Phivolcs-Antique said the magnitude 4.9 tremor occurred at 1:53 a.m. Its epicenter was located six kilometers northeast of Valderrama town and had a depth of 11 kms.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Valderrama, Intensity 4 in Sibalom and San Jose de Buenavista, Antique and Intensity 3 in Calinog, Iloilo.
Phivolcs said afterschocks are expected from the quake.
In Surigao del Norte, Phivolcs recorded a magnitude 4.7 quake in Burgos town. The quake, with its epicenter traced at 159 kms northeast of Burgos, was not felt, the agency said. – Jennifer Rendon, Helen Flores
