2 soldiers hurt in Zambales clash with NPAs
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – Two soldiers and an undetermined number of rebels were wounded during an encounter in Sitio Dampay, Barangay Salasa in Palauig, Zambales Saturday.
Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao, Police Regional Office-3 director, identified the wounded soldiers as Pfcs Romeo Panes and Joven Banes, both members of 24th Infantry Battalion.
A report here said the soldiers led by 1st Lt. Alfie Alonzo were patrolling the area when they were fired upon by 20 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
A policeman was also wounded in an encounter with a group of NPA rebels in Barangay Villa, Maria Aurora, Friday.
PO3 Danilo Mananghaya with other members of the Maria Aurora police were shot by suspected NPA rebels when they proceeded to the area after receiving a report on the burning of heavy equipment.
