Ilocos-Cagayan road hit by landslides

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines– Hundreds of passengers and motorists were stranded along the Ilocos-Cagayan national highway when pre-dawn landslides struck the Ilocos Norte section of the coastal road, particularly in Pagudpud town.

Reports said the landslides brought mud, rocks and fallen trees, causing the section of the road along the landslide-prone Barangay Panzian impassable to any type of vehicle.

Public works personnel were immediately dispatched to the area to restore traffic.

As of presstime, the landslide-hit stretch in Pagudpud had been cleared of mud and uprooted trees by men of the first engineering of Ilocos Norte and municipal workers. – Charlie Lagasca, Raymund Catindig, Teddy Molina
