Casas accepts DQ verdict, not ‘manner of decision’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Cassius Casas last night said he doesn’t question his disqualification in the final round of the ICTSI Canlubang Invitational last Friday but the manner by which he was disqualified.

“I don’t want to contest the decision,” said Casas, referring to his disqualification for allegedly using a non-conforming Cleveland wedge, in Filipino. “But what I couldn’t understand was why did they still allow me to receive my award (as third placer) only to tell me afterwards that I was disqualified.”

Casas matched par 72 in the final round to finish third behind Zanie Boy Gialon and Elmer Saban and was called to the stage to join the top finishers and receive his P65,000 purse.

Only to be told later that he was disqualified.

“The least that they could do was to hold the awards rites and clear the matter to me. But they made me look stupid on the stage,” Casas said.

“The rule for non-conforming clubs was implemented and has been posted on the board every tournament. If they are unsure of their clubs, they should have it checked prior to their round,” said PGTI general manager Colo Ventosa.
