Firm questions integrity of SBMA water samples

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The United States military contractor accused of dumping toxic waste in Subic yesterday questioned the quality of samples obtained by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the way these were tested.

Mateo Mayuga, chief executive officer of Glenn Defense Marine Philippines Inc., said the integrity of the water samples was questionable as some of those who tested them for toxicity were not authorized to do so.

“I’m a bit alarmed as to how the sample was handled,” Mayuga told ABS-CBN News Channel in an interview. “I got information that unauthorized people handled the sample.”
