Agusan landslide kills 2

Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur, Philippines – Two small-scale miners were killed in a landslide caused by heavy rains.

It took more than 24 hours for the rescuers to recover the bodies of Ronnie Lawangon, 36, a resident of Barangay Alegria here; and Mark Glen Casher, 27, of Barangay Bayugan 3 in neighboring Rosario town.

Residents of Sitio Sumogbong said illegal mining operations remain unabated in the village.

Reports said British and Taiwanese businessmen are financing its operation.
