MANILA, Philippines - Two persons have died and another reported missing due to floods spawned by an intertropical convergence zone affecting the Visayas and Mindanao.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the fatalities as Ruelyn Aling, 22, a resident of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur and Zosito Andamon, 28, of Digos City.
The two drowned following flashflood caused by heavy rains in Sta. Cruz town Sunday night.
The rains caused the Sibulan River to overflow and flooded Barangays Darong, Sibulan and Astorga.
A certain Arjay Javier, 17, a resident of Makilala, North Cotabato also went missing Sunday afternoon after jumping into a river during the heavy downpour.
In Zamboanga-Sibugay, the continuous heavy rains have affected 250 families from eight barangays.
Meanwhile, 22 barangays in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur were affected by floods as the Simuay River in Sultan Kudarat and Nituan River in Parang overflowed.
At least 33 barangays were affected by the bad weather, NDRRMC said.
