Lawmaker seeks probe on release of 2 Chinese

By Jigger Jerusalem - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – As the anti-mining initiative here has intensified, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has urged Congress to conduct an inquiry into the freeing of two Chinese nationals who were arrested during a raid on a mining site last month.

Rodriguez, through a resolution, has asked the House committee on natural resources on Wednesday to investigate why Zong Hengyuan and He Jiancheng were let go by authorities when there were grounds for them to be held.

Rodriguez said the two Chinese should have been charged since investigation revealed that they only have tourist visas and not working permits.
