La Union board member bet survives ambush

AGOO, La Union, Philippines – A candidate for provincial board member in the second district of La Union is in critical condition after he was ambushed in Barangay Consolacion here yesterday morning.

Chief Inspector Artemio Infante, town police chief, identified the victim as Lazaro Gayo, 62, former vice mayor of Tubao, La Union.

Initial investigation showed Gayo was walking on his way to the office when a lone gunman shot him in the back. 

Police are looking into politics as among the possible motive of the killing.

Authorities earlier declared Tubao and Agoo towns as election hotspots. – Jun Elias, Cecille Suerte Felipe
