Politics eyed in CamSur mayor’s slay
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A witness has come forward to shed light on the killing of Lupi, Camarines Sur Mayor Raul Matamorosa.
Bobby, elder brother of the slain mayor, said politics could be a motive in the killing.
Bobby said the witness, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, gave a detailed plan of the murder.
Matamorosa was shot in the head by a lone gunman in front of an electronics repair shop in Barangay Conception Pequeña in Naga City at 3:45 p.m. last Saturday.
Superintendent Renato Bataller, Bicol police spokesman, said the witness would be placed under the protection of Special Investigation Task Group Matamorosa, which was organized by Senior Superintendent Arnold Alvis, Camarines Sur provincial police director, to conduct an investigation into the killing.
Matamorosa was the highest local official killed in the Bicol region since the filing of certificates of candidacy last Oct. 5 for those running in next year’s elections.
