CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A memorial honoring those who died in the aftermath of typhoon “Sendong” now stands in a private cemetery here, just two months ahead of the tragedy’s first anniversary.
The Sendong monument, located at the Golden Haven Memorial Park in Barangay Bulua, consists of 13 pillars bearing the names of those confirmed to have died in the killer typhoon in December last year.
Former Las Piñas congresswoman Cynthia Villar, chairperson and managing director of the Villar Foundation which donated the memorial, yesterday said it is in memory of all those who died, adding, “It’s also to remind us that we should take care of our nature.”
She was accompanied by her husband, Sen. Manny Villar.
