Cornered robber blows himself up in Iloilo

MANILA, Philippines - A robber killed himself by blowing up a grenade after policemen in Jaro, Iloilo City, cornered him early yesterday.

In a report sent to Camp Crame, Western Visayas police director Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz said a police team was conducting a checkpoint along Jalandoni street when the suspect, Gelbie Principe, alias “Biboy,” who was riding a motorcycle sped away. 

Cruz said a chase followed and Principe barged into a house and hid inside a toilet. The suspect exploded a grenade as policemen were approaching. Two policemen were hurt in the explosion. 

A caliber .45 pistol, P29,000 cash, a knife, a motorcycle and a mobile phone were seized from the suspect. – Mike Frialde, Jennifer Rendon
