ANGELES CITY, Philippines – The use of plastic and other non-biodegradable items is now banned in the capital town of Aurora province.
Baler’s municipal council has passed Ordinance 02-2011, which bans the use and purchase of plastic bags, cellophane and polystyrene or styropor foam, in all business establishments in their town.
“The objective of the ordinance is to support the campaign to protect the environment in the fight against global warming,” Baler Mayor Arthur Angara said.
Baler’s Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Ma. Liza Costa warned that violators would be fined P500 to P2,500 or jailed for as long as 30 days, aside from the cancellation of their business permits.
