MANILA, Philippines - Schools should come up with rules and safety plans for educational tours.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued the statement following the recent tragedy in Boracay Island where a student drowned during an educational field trip.
“We agree with the NDRRMC that it should be part of disaster preparedness,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview over government-run dzRB yesterday.
The NDRRMC said students joining field trips must be briefed on the risks when going swimming or hiking.
Schools should also instruct students to look for the nearest tourist assistance center for help if there are emergencies, the NDRRMC said.
