CamSur folk reject bill, poll shows
MANILA, Philippines - Senators were urged not to support the move to divide Camarines Sur as majority of Camsureños reject this, Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. said, citing the results of a survey.
In a letter to the senators dated Sept. 11, Villafuerte said the survey conducted by the Philippine Survey Research Center showed that seven out of 10 Camsureños oppose the proposal to divide Camarines Sur.
“Contrary to the claims of its proponents, the bill obviously lacks public support. There is no clamor and there is no urgency,” he said.
“The people are patently rejecting it and if you will study the per district breakdown, it is unacceptable even to the very own constituents of Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella,” he added, referring to one of the move’s proponents.
Villafuerte said the survey among 1,200 respondents held from July 30 to Aug. 15 showed that 73 percent are against dividing the province, 25 percent are in favor of the move, while a mere two percent remain undecided.
The results also indicate a high awareness rating of 92 percent among the respondents on the issue.
