ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A candidate for vice mayor in Basilan survived an ambush yesterday.
Police identified the victim as Farouk Alfad, a candidate in the municipality of Tabuan-Lasa Island, who is temporarily residing in this city.
Alfad said he was riding his service vehicle when two motorcycles overtook them along Mayor Jaldon street in Barangay Canelar and fired several shots at the passenger side, where he was seated.
Alfad was hit on the left arm while his cousin, Hersed Alfad, who was driving the vehicle was unharmed.
Alfad, son of former Sumisip mayor Ibrahim Alfad, said it would be his second time to run for vice mayor under the opposition party.
