Angara launches Aurora gubernatorial bid
BALER, Aurora, Philippines – Sen. Edgardo Angara launched here on Saturday night his candidacy for governor in his first-ever public birthday celebration in this capital town.
In a fiesta-like atmosphere during his 78th birthday celebration at the Dr. Juan Angara Sports Complex, Angara arrived at the Dr. Juan Angara Sports Complex with his wife Gloria and Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo to the cheers of the allies and supporters of the Angaras, this province’s political kingpins.
Angara turned 78 last Sept. 24.
Baler Mayor Arthur Angara, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Aurora chapter, expressed hope that his elder brother will continue to help develop the province not only as a senator but also as governor.
He said their league’s concern was how to make sure that the progress of the province would continue and not slacken under a new administration.
“It’s a serious concern among us mayors, really. What is important is to continue what has been started and not to slow down and retrogress. Aurora won’t be what it is today without Sen. Angara,” he said.
In his speech, Angara said, “I was the only senator to have served 24 years in the Senate covering four terms along with Senator Lorenzo Tanada.”
He said his only intention is to ensure the sustainability of programs in the province which the Angaras have started since 2004.
