Kidnapped Chinese mining exec rescued in Zamboanga City
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Combined police and military forces rescued yesterday a Chinese mining executive kidnapped last June 4 in Kabasalan town in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Yuankai Lin alias Jampong Lin, 38, a native of Guandong, China, was rescued following a fierce encounter at around 10:30 a.m in Sitio Dulian, Barangay Calabasa. Four kidnappers, including a woman, were killed in the 15-minute gunfight.
Chief Superintendent Napoleon Estilles, Police Regional Office 9 chief, confirmed the rescue of Lin, one of the two Chinese mining executives were taken from their rented house in Barangay F.L. Peña.
Lin’s companion, Jian Luo alias James Lou, 43, was released last Aug. 25 after payment of ransom.
Khair Mundos and a certain Ajijul Temeng led the Abu Sayyaf group behind the kidnapping. The same group was tagged in a bus bombing near the terminal in this city last Aug. 16.
Authorities also recovered several firearms from the slain suspects.
