- Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines – At least 121 plebes will be recognized as members of the Cadet Corps of the Armed Forces of the Philippines today.

The plebes – 100 males and 21 females – comprise the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 2016 named “Gabay Laya (Gintong Anak ng Bayan na Alay ang buhaY para sa kaLAYAan).”

Members of PMA Class 2016 are “guides/agents of freedom,” as they call themselves, said Capt. Lynette Flores, PMA spokesperson.

Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, Army commanding general, will preside over the recognition rites at the Borromeo Field.

At least 6,066 people took the PMA entrance examination in 2011, and 1,120 passed it.

Of those who passed, only 859 reported to the AFP Medical Center in Quezon City for the complete physical exams. But only 131 were selected to comprise Class 2016.
