3 DPWH men killed in Quezon road accident
MANILA, Philippines – Three employees of the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH), including two engineers, died in a vehicular accident in Infanta, Quezon on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The fatalities were identified as geodetic engineers Jose Alden Baldovino and Raul Concepcion, and engineering aide Miguel Romantico. They died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon, Quezon police director, said the victims’ service vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was negotiating a downhill, sharply curved portion of the road in Barangay Magsaysay when the driver, Jose Gonzales Jr., lost control of the wheel, sending the vehicle rolling over.
Residents rushed Gonzales and another passenger, engineering aide Jason Salayong, to the Claro M. Recto Hospital in Infanta for treatment.
Police said the victims had just finished a survey on a section of the Marikina-Infanta Road and were on their way back to Infanta when they met the accident. – Cecille Suerte Felipe, Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
