Fire hits 8 hectares of Isabela sugarcane farms

ILAGAN CITY, Philippines – Eight hectares of sugarcane farm went up in smoke in two separate fires that hit two Isabela plantations owned by the Ecofuel Land Management Corp. – a subsidiary of the Green Futures Bio-Ethanol Plant – in San Mariano town last Friday.

Isabela police director Senior Superintendent Franklin Mabanag said four hectares of sugarcane farm in Sitio Lacson in Barangay Binatug in San Mariano town were burned after the owner of an adjacent cassava plantation set on fire piles of dried stalks on his lot.

In Villa Pereda Delfin Albano town, another four hectares were burned for still an unknown cause.
